The Bureau of Labor Standards (established in the Dept. of Labor in 1934 as the Division of Labor Standards and renamed in 1948) was placed in the newly established Wage and Labor Standards Administration of the department in 1967. In 1970 the name of the latter was changed to Workplace Standards Administration. In 1971 this agency was replaced by two new bodies, the Employment Standards Administration and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. At the same time the Bureau of Labor Standards was abolished and its functions were divided between the two new bodies
