The National Center for Health Services Research and Development was established in 1968. In 1973 it became the Bureau of Health Services Research and Evaluation of the Health Services and Mental Health Administration. In 1974 the name was changed to Bureau of Health Services Research of the Health Resources Administration, and in 1975 to National Center for Health Services Research.
